FriYayyy

Happy FriYay! This week has been pretty productive, my current rotation is going well. I begin my core track in January (meaning, I will be required to take shelf exams after every rotation), I've been preparing for that by reading Master the Boards and taking notes. Earlier in the week my roommate invited me to her cultural fashion show, it was very nice; we ended up going to Red Lobster afterwards. I worked as a waitress there for roughly 2 years during undergrad, I had not been there in years, it was delicious! Have a great weekend!

One of my favorite hobbies growing up, cross stitching! This project will be a Christmas

Mini Vacation Before Next Rotation

Happy Monday!!! Where did the year go, it's November already?! Have you accomplished everything you set out for in 2017??
My first rotation is over, I learned so much over a 6 week period. I feel more confident communicating with patients and typing up soap notes. I begin my next rotation tomorrow, I am excited and feel blessed to be at this point in my life.

Wishing Dr. Ralph Northam all the best during tomorrows election, please go vote Virginia!

Lets finish 2017 out strong!
You can accomplish anything you put your mind too, never give up

Quick lunch break at Panera, their salads are delicious

Last day selfies during lunch break

A classmate recommended Kombucha, being adventurous I tried it....this flavor was
not really my favorite but I purchased Cosmic Cranberry and it was good

During the break we met up with Jade! I had not seen her in 6 years, so it was a complete treat!
She is an orthopedic surgeon, and is currently doing her residency training; I could not be more proud of her, true inspiration.

Flight back to Florida; well rested, happy, and ready to begin a new rotation!

Visit From Bro Bro- Part 1

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and that you have an excellent upcoming week!
This past weekend my younger brother visited from New York, we had a blast! The first night we ate at an amazing seafood restaurant, I seriously could not move afterwards, it was so filling! We then went to the movies and watched Blade Runner.
The next morning we woke up early to go scuba diving. This was my first time! First we had a quick training in a swimming pool, then we took a van, along with a group of people to Key Largo. I didn't become nervous until I was on the boat heading out to the middle of the ocean! The water was so blue and pretty, I saw a lot of fish and jelly fish. I would definitely do it again, I just need to learn how to properly equalize my ears!

Afterwards, we went to Wynwood Walls (Part 2, later in the week) and a block party which had a lot of vendors and yummy food. We saw many different wall murals and paintings. Sunday morning we went to brunch, once again the food was delicious. The restaurant was located near Fort Lauderdale beach so we went there and did jet skiing. Lastly, we went to a place called Chill N' Nitrogen Ice Cream. They add all the ingredients to a milky substance and then blend everything together using nitrogen ice and it becomes ice cream! It was pretty cool to watch. Before I knew it we were headed back to the airport and hugging each other goodbye. Today it was back to learning, I did my first attempt at suturing, the instructor did a great job teaching it so it went pretty well.

I love my younger brother so much and I'm so glad he took the time out to visit me!

Thank you Mom/Dad for the shirt, wearing it for the first time...one of my birthday gifts! xoxo

A little overboard with the foundation but all smiles, nothing beats quality time with family

I sooooooo want one of these, I felt like I was in a James Bond movie, haha!!!

My First Five Days In Florida

Greetings! If you've been following my blog you know that I recently passed my board exam and was set to begin my clinical rotations this week. If you are new, welcome to my page, I'm thrilled that you found it (given the somewhat complicated title) and I hope you visit again!

Every student that attends Ross University SOM is required to do their first rotation at the Miramar, Florida site; it is located roughly 20 minutes away from Miami. I arrived early last week and settled into my new place. As the weather stations began predicting the storm path of Hurricane Irma I felt it was best to travel upstate to Orlando to stay with my friends family. Yesterday, during the late afternoon, I made the decision to drive back to Atlanta. I arrived back home at roughly 1am, I felt it was the best choice. The concern from family members, friends (including a phone call from my Planet Fitness gym in Atlanta), and classmates has been heartwarming and appreciated. Below are a few pictures from my trip.

I am praying for the Florida community and for all the staff tirelessly working around the clock to ensure the safety of those affected.

A Peruvian dish; one of my first meals upon arrival, it was delicious

Upon leaving downtown Orlando I drove past a German Bakery! I instantly turned around, my grandmother is German and every time I encounter one of these amazing places I stop off and pick something up for her. I found a yummy looking fruit spread, I hope she likes it!

I asked the lady that was working there for a recommendation and she suggested this cake called, Bee Sting Cake (Bienenstich). It had a crème filled center and topped with honey roasted almonds.

I stayed in a lovely town called Sanford, the people there were really nice. The lady that I was staying with took me over to their welcome center to pick up a Sanford t-shirt!

She also introduced me to the great wonders of a pressure cooker. It literally cuts your cooking time in half and your food ends up perfectly cooked and flavorful! I'm thinking about investing in one of these, it would be perfect for the upcoming year.

During the drive back home, I began listening to this audiobook. I would recommend it, the author (also physician) makes a wonderful connection between totality in health, happiness, and peace and it's interconnection between the belief in a higher being than yourself. You can find it on YouTube.

Total Solar Eclipse 2017

Happy Monday! Today was pretty epic to say the least. I made a few phone calls this morning and every location didn't have glasses, but my dad had some! I took a short road trip to Athens, Ga to attend University of Georgia's "Eclipse Blackout 2017". The stadium was packed with students and visitors, it was super hot! They had fun eclipse trivia and t-shirt launchers (I'm sad to say that I did not catch one!). There we're a good number of clouds, but by the time the eclipse occurred we had a perfect view! I finished up the day by stopping at Krispy Kreme and picked up a few chocolate glaze doughnuts, they we're yummy!
Have a productive week!

Psoriasis Awareness Month: this condition consist of papules and plaques with silver scaling, especially on knees and elbows. It can be detected by Auspitz sign (pinpoint bleeding spots from exposure of dermal papillae when scales are scraped off). In addition to the co-morbidities listed, it is also associated with nail pitting, Crohn's disease, and osteoporosis.

Life Lately

Hello you all! Where in the world is the year going, it's almost mid-August?! I've been busy getting together all my paper work and looking into where I would like to do my track location. I must admit, despite little to no studying right now I still have my morning cup of Joe.

Remember to pick up your solar eclipse glasses this week at your local public library (or Home Depot, Walmart, Lowes, Toys R Us, and Amazon) and try Krispy Crèmes limited edition eclipse doughnuts from the 19th to the 21st!

~Thanks for visiting, have an amazing upcoming week~

When my sister came to visit she suggested blackberry hibiscus tea, it was so yummy and perfect
for this Atlanta heat! Needless to say, it did not last very long!

Hanging out with a few classmates in the area, all smiles

I was able to visit The Varsity! It's the same burger and fry diner Obama visited a few years ago,
they had t-shirts for sell and everything; the food (and peach sweet tea) was really good.

Gym flow, if you've been following my blog you have a good idea what my
favorite shirt is....its so comfy and goes with everything! #lovemyhbcu

Happy to do some leisure reading at B&N, it's one of my favorite spots to visit when I have free time

Yousaf! He was in my corner during my Dominica days; numerous coffee breaks and study sessions, we made it through! We recently had a wonderful time catching up and I was given great advice on my upcoming rotation.
